CentralRNC.jpgSo what does an urban congregation do when a political party’s convention comes to town?  Given all the craziness of dealing with security, a massive media presence and thousands of protestors, one might think it would be wise of said congregation to close its doors for the week.

Central Presbyterian in St. Paul is faced with the reality that the 2008 Republican National Convention will be taking a place just a stone’s throw away at the Xcel Center and Central also sits on the route marked off by the St. Paul police department as a protest route.  With all of this, Central has not chosen to close the church’s door, but instead, throw them open to the world, inviting people to their usual Wednesday community luncheon (which will be expanded to all four days of the convention) and offering a place for people to pray and medidate.  You can find out more about how Central is planning to become a “peaceful presence” during the RNC by listen the this month’s episode of iWitness.
